This did not surprise me. The Electronic Frontier Foundation reports today that the voter helpline 866-OUR-VOTE helped over 86,000 voters on November 4th.
This did. EFF advises that most of the calls were from voters asking very simple questions:
The vast majority of the calls came from voters with one of two inquiries: 29,000 callers asked "Am I registered to vote?", and 34,000 asked "Where is my polling place?"
And that is just the tip of the iceburg. Voters do not understand the registration or voting process, and many forget about it for years at a time. When or if they move, their registration isn't automatically updated or transferred. Many voters do not realize that on election day they must vote at the correct location in order to get the ballot with the local contests they are eligible to vote on. Voters fall out of the voter registration databases for many reasons, and these databases are the next black boxes of voting for the next 2 years.
